Building a solid wired network for a small business
A company required their existing setup upgrading; it was a jumble of computers, loose cabling and no centralized file access or internet. After consultation and planning of all requirements, a proposal was made on paper to have a secure network with all the essentials setup. I started off in the old office by backing up all existing data, then reloading a new Operating System applying patches, etc. My next step was to network them using a wired network router and switch, after configuring the routers DHCP, firewall and content blocking settings I connected the computers and tested each one for good connectivity. A file server was setup using a basic Windows XP Pro machine this computer backs up daily on to two hard disks, one internal the other removable. All the users documents, email, company data are stored and accessible by all users and secured by the two backups. Over time only a few very minor tweaks have been required, other than that it has been very reliable and stable.

The customer had tried to install this adapter using instruction from the retail outlet where it was purchased. The customer explained that is just wasn't working and did not understand some details. The operating system did not have the correct software to use the device, after installing and updating the software on the netbook and entering a few settings it worked.
